When operations are at the same hierarchy level (as addition and subtraction are, or as multiplication and division are), the evaluation proceeds from left to right. Of course, no one (outside of some school texts and poorly designed test questions) ever writes something like "6 times 2 divided by 4" without parentheses.Dave L. Order of Operations says to do addition and subtraction in order from left to right. Thus 8-2 =6 and 6+1=7.
